Cotton Seed
Cotton is the most important cash crop in Pakistan and cotton products export account for 55 percent of all foreign exchange earnings of the country. Nearly 26 percent of farmers grow cotton, and over 15 percent of the total cultivated area is devoted to this crop, with production primarily in two provinces. Approximately 65 percent of Pakistan’s cotton is grown in Punjab, which has dry conditions, and the rest is grown in Sindh, which has a more humid climate, with negligible area under cotton in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. It serves as the raw material for the textile industry, the country’s largest agro-industrial sector, employs 17 percent, earns 60 percent of foreign exchange, and contributes 8.5 percent to GDP.
Organic & Healthy Cotton Crop
The projections indicate that the cotton production for the 2023-24 season is expected to reach a staggering 11.5 million bales, harvested from an extensive area covering 2.4 million hectares.
Organic Seed
Less environmental pollution & side effects, better crop diversity, reduced reliance on monocultures.
Hybrid Seed
More cotton per acre & more resistant to pests and diseases. This can lead to higher profits for farmers.
Pakistan is the sixth-largest producer of cotton in the world. It also has the third-largest cotton spinning capacity in Asia (after China and India), with thousands of ginning and spinning units producing textile products from cotton.
Cotton requires a significant amount of water, and water scarcity is a growing concern in Pakistan. Promote efficient irrigation practices like drip or sprinkler irrigation to conserve water. Develop drought-resistant cotton varieties through biotechnology and breeding. Encourage farmers to adopt rainwater harvesting techniques.
Changing weather patterns and increasing temperatures due to climate change can affect cotton cultivation.
Cotton crop considered the lifeline for Pakistan’s economy. Pakistan currently placed at 5th position in global cotton production after India, China, USA and Brazil. Cotton production entails more than 60% of foreign exchange earnings (US$ 12-15 billion annually).
